After years of training and studio work, discovering plein air painting while beginning portraiture in oils opened new doors for me. It was about the same time I began studies at Grand Central Atelier with Rick Piloco where I learned about the Hudson River Fellowship.

While living in New York City for a while, it was not until sometime later that my studio work stepped outdoors, and my local surroundings became my subject matter. From public gardens and historic estates to wild and rugged scenery of coastal landscapes, mountains, or rainforests, and in just about any season or weather condition, plein air painting makes the experience all the more acute and enlivens the senses. I would add that being in nature is its reward for a landscape painter.
